Heritage Checks the Math on Gang of 8 Amnesty Bill

The numbers are in on the Gang of 8 Amnesty bill…and they aren’t pretty.  Instead of improving the lives of Americans, the proposal appears to be a sure path to bankruptcy.  Some highlights from the study:

·         The bill will cost the American taxpayers $6.3 trillion dollars.

·         The average illegal immigrant granted amnesty would receive $592,000 more in benefits than they would contribute.

·         After 13 years, illegal immigrants would become eligible for means-tested welfare and Obamacare, eventually causing an aggregate annual deficit increase around $106 billion.

·         By making illegal immigrants eligible for Social Security and Medicare, it will cause a net increase in retirement costs of around $22,700 per retired amnesty recipient per year.

Any proposal to legalize the millions of unlawful immigrants in this country must be a net gain for the American people.  This bill isn’t.  In fact, it places a huge cost on the taxpayers of this country and saddles already struggling social programs with additional costs that they cannot contain.

Any politician, Republican or Democrat, who supports this legislation owes the taxpayers an explanation of how they will pay for these additional, massive costs because the legal citizens of this country simply cannot afford to give more money to the tax man.
