Specter Catches One on the Chin

Sestak's latest ad attacks Specter for his association with Republican President George W. Bush. He portrays his switch to Democrat as one of sheer opportunism.

If you remember, Specter tried to dispel all rumors that he would leave the Republican Party-until the polling came in.

Metcalfe Introduces Immigration Measure in PA

Butler County State Representative and Lieutenant Governor Candidate Daryl Metcalfe today proposed that Pennsylvania adopt legislation similar to that which Arizona recently passed.

Metcalfe is no Johnny-come-lately to the issue of immigration. A few years back, Metcalfe introduced the National Security Begins at Home package which included:

• HB 2761 which would have limited benefits from illegal immigrants with the exception of emergency medical services

• HB 2760 which would have increased penalties for employing illegal immigrants

• HB 799 encourage the President and Congress to immediately secure the nation’s borders

This law is a bit different than Arizona’s but the motivation is the same-the Federal Government’s abject failure to enforce the laws as it relates to immigration laws. Illegal immigration costs taxpayers hundreds of millions of dollars each year.

Metcalfe’s law addresses many of the concerns with Arizona’s bill by prohibiting racial profiling, requiring another legal stop before verification of immigration status and increasing penalties for either transporting or hiring illegal immigrants.

Coverage of the bill can be found here.

Metcalfe’s release on the bill can be found here.
